Architects of Existence prove that third time is indeed a charm. Not that their first two CS releases were chopped liver, mind you. It’s simply that Mick Chillage and Eric “the” Taylor pool their collective expertise with such synchronicity you can’t help but be utterly enchanted with the sound design on display. Theirs is a magnificent beauty indeed, as the eye peeks into the gargantuan black holes their synths conjure, sights of epic wonder, infinite expanse, and odysseys in to space that mortal man can but dream of. The opening “C18” distills these motifs with its perpetual gaze, as electronics arc and iris throughout an indifferent cosmos, Chillage and Taylor begging kaleidoscopic microdots of errant pulse and vibrant, interstellar hues that shift about the color spectrum. It’s as if the duo are rendering corporeal the very sounds of stardust itself. The sweeping arias of airbrushed sound underpinning the near 19-minute journey of “Haunted Existence” must circumnavigate a whole array of moods and textures, synths that mimic light rays bent awry, digital phantasms percolating betwixt galaxies, the sensations of massive objects moving forever in a night sky drenched in abject melancholy. Just stupendous.
